Design + Development

The User is Visibly Frustrated

Coding agents mimic human behavior closely enough to trip real emotional wires, but without the social contract that keeps you from losing it at a colleague. This essay explains why AI chat interfaces make you angrier than a bug ever did.

Write First, Then Design

Karl Koch makes the case for writing in prose before any design or engineering begins. The argument: writing forces product decisions, surfaces constraints, and exposes tradeoffs early, so alignment between design and engineering comes cheaper than fixing things later.

Prototyping Got 4x Faster. Here's What Actually Changed.

A developer measured a real 4x productivity gain from AI agents: then noticed the bigger shift: the work itself changed shape. Describing success clearly, it turns out, matters as much as writing code.

Fontastic Space

A browser tool for comparing Google Fonts side by side, with anatomy overlays, OpenType metrics, and pairing scores. Find mathematically informed font combinations and copy the CSS straight into your project.

Tech + Innovation

Hermes Desktop: Nous Research's Open-source AI Agent Leaves the Terminal

I'm a big Hermes fan. IMO, way more premium and responsive than Open Claw. And now, Nous Research has shipped Hermes Desktop, a native app for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Recommend giving it a try if you haven't. Poke This is a big deal because Apple approved it. Poke runs inside Apple Messages, WhatsApp, Telegram, and RCS, handling email, calendars, reminders, web search, and app integrations by text. Seems ripe for an acquisition soon...

Apple Design Awards

Apple's official hub for Design Award winners and finalists, organized by year. Covers app and game design across accessibility, innovation, and technical achievement, with links to articles, videos, and resources for developers building on Apple platforms.

Work + Mindset

Dropbox Built an Internal AI Agent Platform and Found a New Bottleneck

Dropbox engineering adopted AI coding agents and watched bottlenecks shift from writing code to reviewing, validating, and releasing it. So they built Nova, an internal agent platform designed to restructure the entire development lifecycle.

AI is Killing the Summer Internship

AI now handles the routine tasks that once justified hiring interns, and The Next Web has the numbers: tech internship postings are down, the entry-level pipeline is shrinking, and the roles that remain expect students to already know how to use AI.

Soleio: the Geometry of Luck

Soleio's closing talk at Tokyo Design Forum 2026 breaks luck into three measurable parts: timing, networks, and deliberate practice. Less motivational speech, more structural argument.
